Mob of teens brutally beat 2 elderly men in ‘inhumane’ attack recorded on cellphone, Milwaukee police say

Community leaders in Wisconsin are calling for reform after cellphone video showed two elderly men being brutally beaten by a group of teenagers.

“Such behaviour is not only unacceptable but inhumane. Violence is never an appropriate method of conflict resolution.”

The Milwaukee Police Department said in a press release that officers responded to South 1st Street around 4 p.m. on Sept. 11 for a report of a group of juveniles punching three adults. Police say a 63-year-old man was hospitalized with serious injuries, while two other victims, ages 62 and 53, were treated at the scene.

Felipe Martinez He told WDJT-TV Two of the victims were his father and uncle, he said, and the incident began with a fight between students at Bradley Tech High School on Milwaukee's south side.

“There was no physical threat from the older man, my uncle or my father,” Martinez said.

He further stated that his uncle, Jesus Andino, instructed the youths to leave the vehicle and the youths then began attacking him and Freddy Vega.

“All of a sudden, they started hitting us,” Martinez said. “There was no physical threat from the older men, my uncle or my father.”

His father has been released from hospital but is still suffering from the aftereffects of the attack.

“We're all more surprised that this happened to him than anyone else,” Martinez said. “He's definitely in a lot of pain and has trouble moving. I've had to help him get out of bed and go to the bathroom.”

Police said they have taken into custody two 14-year-old boys and one 15-year-old boy who have been charged with felony aggravated assault “due to the egregious nature of the incident.”

“MPD asks for assistance in identifying all involved parties, including witnesses. Those who harm others in our community will be held accountable. This type of behavior is not only unacceptable, it is inhumane. Violence is never an appropriate method of conflict resolution.”

The mayor issued a statement condemning the attack, but local leaders are calling for more measures to be taken to prevent such violence on the streets.

The family has set up a GoFundMe Donate A page to help victims pay medical bills.
