Moms Share Disturbing Stories of Violence Against Their Own Children

In recent weeks, there have been several unsettling stories about mothers accused of harming or killing their own children, particularly highlighted by the ongoing trial of Lindsay Clancy.

Clancy, who is facing charges for strangling her three young children—aged five, three, and eight months—has sparked a wave of public sympathy. Her defense contended that her actions stemmed from postpartum psychosis, which resonated with many women nationwide.

While some found the outpouring of compassion for Clancy surprising, a troubling pattern of similar cases has surfaced as well.

Just before the verdict in Clancy’s trial, an Illinois woman, Corie Walsh, was accused of murdering her two-year-old son. The tragic discovery was made when police found the child hanging in the basement of their home. Walsh was subsequently found in a bathtub, injured and bleeding. This incident echoed Clancy’s earlier suicide attempt, where she had inflicted injuries on herself before attempting to jump out of a window.

Prosecutors noted that Walsh had shown an intense interest in the Clancy trial, reportedly discussing it just hours before the alleged incident involving her son.

Walsh’s situation, sadly, is not unique.

In Texas, Holly Leeann Flores is facing attempted murder charges for allegedly stabbing her husband and her two young children. Her husband called for help after he was attacked, and both their three-year-old daughter and ten-month-old son were found with stab wounds.

Reports indicate that Flores had been dealing with postpartum depression, as shared by her husband during the investigation.

Similarly, in South Carolina, Taylor Gosnell has been charged with attempted murder after she allegedly stabbed her six-year-old and three-year-old kids. During a welfare check, responders found the children with over 50 stab wounds combined.

In another case from Texas, a mother reportedly shot her four-year-old daughter, Vivian Savella, after a custody hearing before turning the gun on herself. She managed to survive for several hours but ultimately succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

Cindy Tamez is accused of a catastrophic murder-suicide, having killed her partner and her two sons before taking her own life, after initially fleeing with her toddler.

In South Carolina, Justine May faces allegations of starving her young children to death, an act that has drawn comparisons to the Clancy case from her own mother, who expressed deep anguish over the situation.

“This has been the fresh hell your family has been living every day that you don’t communicate or let us see the girls,” May’s mother said, highlighting the pain surrounding both cases. “Would Justine do this? No. But would this dark entity that is behind Justine’s eyes do this? This haunts my worst nightmares.”
