In a surprising turn of events, Republican Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte defended a state court’s decision to separate a 14-year-old girl from her parents, who opposed her transition.

According to reports, the young man is biologically female and wishes to change his identity as a man. His parents said the child had recently started threatening suicide.

said Gianforte (R-Mont.). national desk (TND) argued on Monday that state authorities were “acting lawfully” in separating children from parents who objected to their gender identity transition.

redux Representatives from Montana Children and Family Services (CFS) took custody of the 14-year-old boy from his parents, Krista and Todd Kolstad, this month, according to reports.

The report also said that during hospital treatment in August, doctors began using the child’s preferred name and pronouns, unrelated to the child’s biological sex or government name.

Parents then voiced their opposition, stating that allowing their child to undergo any form of gender reassignment, socially or medically, violates their “values, morals, and…religious beliefs.”

The 14-year-old boy was later transported by doctors to a specialized housing facility in Wyoming.

according to reduxKrista and Todd claim they were kept in the dark about their child’s health care at the time and that doctors made these arrangements behind their backs.

The 14-year-old boy was then returned to Montana in September and placed in a federally funded group home.

Four months later, Krista and Todd allegedly received notice that CFS had taken custody of the 14-year-old child and that the child’s birth mother in Canada would care for the child post-transition. Krista is the stepmother of a 14-year-old boy with gender dysphoria.

“we, [the child] The court awarded custody to CFS because it was in her “therapeutic best interest” to change gender and live as a boy, and we had no intention of following that recommendation. [the child] For six months,” Krista said. redux. “The judge told us, ‘You need to be prepared that your reunion with your family may not be what you expected.'”

The parents are now considering “limited” legal options to sue both CFS and the hospital that treated their child without their consent, according to reports.

Asked for his opinion on the issue, Gianforte said the right of children to “grow up in happy, healthy homes with loving families” is “not always realized.”

“After hearing recent allegations related to child welfare cases, I asked Lieutenant Governor Kristen Juras, an experienced attorney, constitutional conservative, mother and grandmother, to reconsider,” Governor Gianforte said. Ta. “Lieutenant Governor Juras, in consultation with the Director of DPHHS and after personally reviewing the case documents, has come to the conclusion that DPHHS and the court followed national policy and law in their handling of this tragic case. ”

He went on to mention a Montana law that prohibits medical gender transition for minors.

“As our administration has done to promote adoption and prohibit permanent, invasive, and life-altering medical procedures on children, such as puberty blockers, hormone therapy, and sex, , will continue to advance policies that strengthen families and protect Montana’s children.Replacement Surgery,” he said.
