Montana State Player Engages in Intense Confrontation with Coach on the Field

Julius Davis, running back for the Montana State Bobcats, has issued an apology to his coach and teammates following a heated exchange during Saturday’s 21-13 victory over Yale University.

The altercation took place after the game when Davis confronted a player from Yale. Bobcats coach Brent Vigen quickly stepped in, trying to pull Davis away, but this resulted in a shouting match between the two.

Teammate Tahari Carr also tried to intervene, attempting to separate Davis and Coach Vigen. However, he received a sharp poke from Davis in the process.

Davis has since expressed regret for his behavior, acknowledging that he was overtaken by “emotions” and that his reaction was “unacceptable.”

He shared, “I want to sincerely apologize to my teammates and coaches for my actions. In the moment, I let emotions drive me, which was unacceptable,” on X. He emphasized his recognition of wrongdoing and took full accountability. “Coach Vigen and I have already discussed this. No one outside this team really understands the respect I have for him.”

Davis continued, “I realize my actions were witnessed by many, and I’m genuinely sorry for the poor example I set. I uphold high standards for myself, my team, my coaches, and the game, but I failed to exemplify that in this instance. I am dedicated to learning from this experience, managing my emotions more effectively, and showing respect and professionalism to my teammates, coaches, and everyone watching.” He concluded with, “Thank you for holding me accountable. I’ll do better.”

This season, Davis, who transferred from Wisconsin to Montana State in 2023, has led the team in rushing with 955 yards, averaging 7.1 yards per carry—he had 63 yards on 12 carries during Saturday’s game.

With this win, Montana State moves on to the DCS quarterfinals and will face No. 7 Stephen F. Austin next Saturday.
