Monthly Migrant Encounters in December Exceed 300K for First Time

The number of migrant encounters along the southern border exceeded 300,000 in a month for the first time, according to a report citing unofficial CBP sources. The report says December was the busiest month on record for migrant encounters along the Southwest border.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents, including Border Patrol agents and CBP OFO agents, encountered 302,000 migrants along the Southwest border in December, according to official officials who spoke to Fox News on Tuesday. The number of reported encounters sets a new single-month record for CBP encounters and marks the first time the number has exceeded the 300,000 immigrant threshold.

If the numbers reported by Fox News are accurate, the total number of migrants encountered in the first quarter would be more than 785,000.

The majority of the 302,000 migrant encounters reported in December were migrants apprehended by Border Patrol agents after illegally crossing the border between ports of entry. In the first 28 days of December, that number rose to more than 232,000, Breitbart Texas reported.
