More than Two-thirds Oppose Biden’s Plan for Gaza; 63% Back Israel Attack in Rafah

More than two-thirds of registered U.S. voters oppose President Joe Biden’s plan to restore a Palestinian Authority in the Gaza Strip, according to a new Harvard-Harris poll. The online poll was conducted February 21-22 among 2,022 registered voters.

According to the poll, only 28% of respondents said the Palestinian Authority, which is notoriously corrupt and sponsors terrorism, should rule Gaza once Hamas is removed. The most popular option, at 39%, was for Gaza to be run by Arab countries. 34% said Israel should run it.

When asked whether Hamas should be allowed to operate the Gaza Strip or should be removed, 78% said it should be removed, while 22% said it should remain. 18% of registered voters said they support Hamas in the war, while 82% support Israel in the ongoing conflict.

When it comes to calls for a ceasefire, only 33% of registered U.S. voters say they support an unconditional ceasefire to end the war, while 67% say they want Hamas to release all hostages and be removed from power in Gaza. He replied that a cease-fire should only come into effect after.

Almost two-thirds (63%) said Israel should “continue its ground invasion of southern Gaza to eradicate the final remnants of Hamas.” The Biden administration has said it does not support such operations because of the presence of Palestinian civilians. (Israel has developed a plan to evacuate civilians before moving forward, currently under consideration by the War Cabinet.)

When it comes to attacks by Iranian terrorist groups, 54% said Biden’s approach was too soft, compared to 44% who said he was “acting tough enough.” Furthermore, 67% said the United States should attack terrorist groups rather than simply acting in self-defense. 61% of respondents said his policy toward Iran was a failure, compared to 39% who said it was a success.
