More voters are looking back at former President Trump’s time in office and saying he did a better job than they expected. An investigation released Friday by NBC News found.
As Presidents Biden and Trump prepare for a likely 2020 presidential rematch later this year, the survey asked respondents to confirm their respective terms.
Forty percent of voters said Trump’s term in office was better than they expected, 31% said it was “about as expected,” and 29% said it was worse than expected.
The survey found that the outlook for Biden’s time in office is less optimistic. Just 14% say Biden’s presidency is going better than expected, 44% say it’s been as expected, and 42% say it’s been worse than expected.
NBC News noted that Trump asked voters the same question in 2018, when he was still in office. According to the outlet, he had a much worse score at the time.
Biden has struggled to maintain support within his party. Fifty-two percent of Democrats say the Biden administration has met their expectations, 30% say it has been better than expected, and 18% of Democrats say it has been worse than expected.
Trump, on the other hand, has more enthusiastic supporters, NBC News noted. Eighty percent of Republican respondents said his time in office was better than expected, while just 6% said it was worse.
Independent voters also strengthened their support for Trump. Among independent respondents, 18% said Trump’s term in office was worse than expected, and 52% said the same about Biden.
The results come at a complicated time for the sitting president. According to The Hill/Decision Desk headquarters, Biden’s favorability rating is 53.9 percent, with 43.3 percent viewing his presidency favorably.
The NBC News poll was conducted from January 26th to 30th among 1,000 registered voters. The margin of error is 3.1 percentage points.
