Most Aid Delivered to Gaza Via U.S. Pier Is Being Stolen

According to reports, most of the aid being delivered to Gaza through a new “floating pier” built by the US military is being stolen.

The pier, announced by President Joe Biden in his State of the Union address, was completed last week, and the Pentagon announced Tuesday that 569 tons of aid has been brought ashore so far.

But with reports emerging that Palestinians simply stole aid from the backs of delivery trucks, the Pentagon is unsure how much aid money actually reaches the organizations it is supposed to distribute. It is not possible to reveal whether the amount was received.

Reuters report On Tuesday, it was announced that “aid supplies have not been delivered to the United Nations warehouse from the pier built by the United States for two days.”

He further added:

The United Nations announced that 10 truckloads of food aid, transported by UN contractors from the pier site, were received at a World Food Program warehouse in Deir el-Balah in the Gaza Strip on Friday.

But on Saturday, only five trucks reached the warehouse, after the remaining 11 were removed by Palestinians while UN officials were passing through areas difficult for humanitarian aid to access.

The United Nations did not receive any aid from the pier on Sunday and Monday. “We need to ensure that the necessary security and logistics arrangements are in place before proceeding,” the UN official said.

The press asked about the situation. Briefing session On Tuesday, Pentagon spokesman Air Force Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder said it would be inaccurate to say no aid was arriving, but asked how the U.S. would ensure aid was delivered from the pier. He said he could not explain it.

“The aid is at an assembly point on the beach, right? So it’s been taken, and the military, the U.S. military, is taking it up the causeway,” he said. “It’s then picked up by a non-U.S. contractor, driven to the beach, and placed at an assembly point, where the NGOs that are supporting the effort pick it up and take it for subsequent distribution.”

He could not say how much of the estimated 569 tonnes of aid delivered to the pier was actually received by aid groups.
