A majority of voters said issues related to the economy and immigration were the most important issues to them. New poll finds.
Economist/YouGov Poll, Conducted In a survey conducted August 11th and 13th, 54% of voters said the most important issues to them were “inflation/prices,” “jobs and the economy,” “immigration,” and “taxes and government spending.”
The Labor Department said Wednesday that the Consumer Price Index (CPI), a common measure of inflation, fell to a 2.9% increase last month from a year earlier, the first time since spring 2021 that the CPI has fallen below 3%.
Polls in recent months have consistently shown the economy and immigration to be top concerns for voters.
As the general election approaches, both former President Trump and Vice President Harris are at odds over immigration.
The Trump campaign has sought to cast Harris as a “border czar” by citing her work on the root causes of migration in the Northern Triangle of Central America, while her campaign has argued she played a role in blocking a border security bill.
Other findings from the poll include that 44% of voters believe Harris will win the presidential election, while 40% believe Trump will win.
The Economist/YouGov poll included 1,407 registered voters and had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.2 percentage points.
