A Harvard-Harris Poll found that a majority of voters do not support open borders, but they feel that Vice President Kamala Harris holds an open borders world view.
In opinion polls, Published Tuesday’s survey found that 68% of voters oppose an open border, including nearly half of Democrats (49%), 85% of Republicans and 73% of independents. Thirty-two percent of respondents (51% of Democrats) support an open border.
Voters believe Harris will break with them on this issue: 69% of respondents believe she supports open borders. 56% of Democrats, 82% of Republicans and 69% of independents believe she supports open borders.
The 31% who think she is opposed to an open border include 44% of Democrats, 18% of Republicans and 31% of independents.
The poll found that “immigration” was the second most important issue for voters at 33%, behind prices and inflation at 37%. Half of Republicans, 18% of Democrats and 32% of independents said immigration was the most important issue.
Just over a week into her candidacy, Harris’ far-left views on the border, which she espoused before becoming vice president, and her time in the Biden administration as a leader in tackling the “root causes” of illegal migration in Central America, have come under scrutiny from her and lower-ranking Democrats.
As Breitbart News noted, Harris ran on decriminalizing illegal immigration and providing free health care to undocumented immigrants during the 2020 primary.
Moreover, around the time President Joe Biden appointed her in March 2021 to lead “efforts with Mexico, the Northern Triangle, and countries that need our assistance in stemming migration to our southern border,” she was informally referred to as the “border czar” by reports such as Axios, though Biden never appears to have used the term.
The media claims that Kamala Harris was never Biden’s border official.

But after Harris became the presumptive nominee, the left-leaning Axios Published In an article titled “Border chaos dogges Harris’ new campaign,” Steph Kite wrote, “The Trump campaign and Republicans have repeatedly bestowed on Harris the title of ‘border czar,’ but she doesn’t deserve it.”
After the media coverage of Shauna Chen Description Harris will reportedly be “appointed by Biden to be border secretary” in April 2023, but Axios updated Kyte’s article with an editor’s note saying his use of the term three and a half years ago was a mistake.
“Editor’s note: This story has been updated to clarify that Axios was among the news outlets that incorrectly referred to Harris as the ‘border minister’ in 2021.” It says:
On March 24, 2021, the Associated Press report Harris was chosen to “lead the White House’s efforts to address the migration challenge at the U.S. southern border and work with Central American countries to address the root causes of the problem,” the statement said.
That was less than two months into the administration: Breitbart News noted that since Biden and Harris took office, more than 11 million illegal immigrants have entered the US.
