Mother of Idaho Victim Offers Forgiveness to Bryan Kohberger and Expresses Her Faith in Courtroom

Forgiveness from a Grieving Mother

Kara Norsington, mother of one of the victims, offered forgiveness to Brian Coberger, who killed four University of Idaho students in 2022, including her daughter. Coberger was found guilty of fatally stabbing Ethan Chapin, Xana Kernodle, and Madison Morgen, all in their early twenties, in an off-campus home.

At a recent hearing, Judge Stephen Hippler issued the sentence shortly after Coberger accepted a contentious plea deal to escape the death penalty. This information has been reported by various news outlets. The families of the victims also shared heartfelt statements about the profound effects of the murders on their lives and communities.

Norsington emphasized her belief in forgiveness through her faith, stating she needed to seek peace for herself and her family. She addressed Coberger directly in court. “This forgiveness has released me from the pain you’ve caused.”

She remembered her daughter fondly, describing her beauty inside and out, and shared how she brought joy and laughter to everyone around her. Norsington also reminded Coberger that he would one day face divine judgment. “I pray for you,” she said. “I hope you find our Lord and Savior before your time is up.”

Prosecutors revealed that Coberger, a doctoral student at the time of the attacks, had meticulously planned the assault. Evidence linking him to the crime included DNA, cell phone records, and surveillance footage.
