Moulton says Trump won because of vision: 'However twisted and unconscionable'

Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.) said Friday that President-elect Trump's victory over Vice President Harris in the 2024 election is due, in part, to “how distorted and unconscionable Trump is about this country.” He suggested that it was because they shared a true vision.

“Americans voted for Trump because he articulated a vision for solving their problems and addressing their fears, no matter how twisted or unconscionable.” he said. wrote in an editorial Shared by The Washington Post.

In his op-ed, Moulton urged Democrats to listen more to voters, even if they disagree or have different ideas about the things they care about.

“Trump, despite his rants and lies, understands and understands real fear. When Americans are worried about crime, he (even if the White House's budget is not met) “We pledged to support the police,'' the congressman representing Bay State's 6th Congressional District wrote.

“Meanwhile, some Democrats have called for “defunding the police.'' When voters say they are tired of increasing violence, shoplifting, and community disorder, some of us “Some people brought up national and historical (i.e. irrelevant) data to prove that their feelings were wrong.”

The Democrat continued, “When Democrats don't honestly address real issues that matter to Americans, it gives the impression that we don't understand, or worse, that we simply don't care.”

Moulton has been a vocal critic of the party's performance in the 2024 cycle. In an interview with CNN following the Democratic Party's heavy defeat, he acknowledged that the party “lost badly” and said it “should have been liquidated.”

“This was supposed to be an easy election for Democrats,” he wrote. “We lost the White House to a felon who alienated many Republicans.”

Moulton has faced backlash for his election analysis and recent comments criticizing transgender athletes. Shortly after the Massachusetts Democratic Party said it opposed trans athletes participating in women's sports, the party's campaign manager resigned. A few days later, he doubled down on his remarks in an interview with MSNBC, saying he was “speaking sincerely” as a father.

House Democrats argued that the party was leaning too far into identity politics.

“Democrats spend too much time trying not to offend anyone rather than being brutally honest about the challenges facing many Americans,” he said. He spoke to the New York Times days after the 2024 campaign. “I have two little girls and I don't want them to get run over by a man, or a former male athlete, on the field, but as a Democrat I should be scared to say that.”

In his op-ed, Mouton said he thanked several Democratic lawmakers in various positions for controversial remarks he made. home state.

“The question of whether there should be reasonable limits on transgender women's participation in women's sports was not their issue, just as it was not mine – most people agree However,” Mr. Moulton wrote. “They were simply happy that fellow Democrats violated the moratorium on speaking our minds.”

“Voters want their elected officials to voice their concerns, not to tell them what they should think,” he argued.

Moulton said he has learned two things about his party since Election Day.

“No matter how much we lose, the word police will continue to patrol, and more and more people are finally ready to rise above it and start winning again,” he wrote.
