Ms. Rachel Criticizes Silent Celebrities on Gaza
Children’s entertainer Ms. Rachel took to social media on Sunday to express her disappointment with celebrities who have not spoken out about the situation in Gaza, which she has referred to as genocide. In her post, she emphasized that fame means little when public figures do nothing during such critical times.
“Do you want to meet insert huge celeb? Me: No,” Rachel Griffin Accurso, known as Ms. Rachel, stated in an Instagram post. “I don’t fan girl over someone who is doing nothing during a genocide.”
Criticism and Political Tests
This comment follows a recent statement from Campaign Against Antisemitism, which critiqued Accurso for saying she wouldn’t collaborate with “privileged” individuals who remain silent on Gaza. A spokesperson for the organization described her stance as hypocritical, suggesting that her position is, in itself, a form of privilege.
“Acting as an adjudicator is a privileged position, and political purity tests are inherently exclusionary,” the spokesperson remarked. They also pointed out Accurso’s past online behavior, urging her to be more cautious in discussing such sensitive topics.
Pushback from Parents
Accurso’s political activism has drawn the attention of parents as well. Bethany Mandel, a contributor and homeschooling mother, accused her of pushing what she deemed a Hamas narrative, claiming her influence extended beyond just children to adults who follow her.
Interestingly, Accurso did not name the “huge celeb” she referred to in her post, though she did express a willingness to speak with influential figures in hopes of encouraging them to address Gaza.
“I’d have a conversation with someone with a massive platform any day to try and convince them to speak out. (And I have),” she noted, indicating her commitment to the cause.
Continuing Challenges to Celebrities
This latest post continues a pattern where Accurso has challenged the celebrity community regarding Gaza. Last month, she vowed to match Macklemore’s $1 million donation to Palestinian aid organizations and encouraged other wealthy celebrities to do the same. She has also expressed frustration with those who are “too famous to be canceled,” questioning their reluctance to take a stand for civilians in Gaza.
“If you are so famous, and you’re uncancellable, why won’t you even say, ‘Kids in Gaza should have schools’?” she asked during an appearance on comedian Ilana Glazer’s podcast. “Why can’t you risk something to help save lives?”
Ms. Rachel’s Growing Influence
Amidst this political activism, Accurso’s platform continues to expand. With more than 21 million subscribers on YouTube, she has made contributions totaling around $22,500 to various Democratic and progressive candidates since 2024. Additionally, her brand has formed partnerships with Netflix, Penguin Random House, and Spin Master.
