MSNBC is canceling Joy Reid's evening news show as part of an overhaul of its network based on the new presidential administration.
Reed's final show is planned over the course of this week, sources familiar with the change said.
She has hosted “The Reidout” on MSNBC since 2020, discussing political news and events. Leads have also stuck “Lead Report” and “Am Joy” to the network in the past.
The network declined to comment on the changes.
According to MSNBC sources, Simon Sanders Townsend, Michael Steele and Alicia Menendez, who currently host the network's “weekend,” are locked in the 7pm slot on Reed.
Sources emphasized that the changes will not only affect lead shows. Jen Psaki reportedly will lock one of the prime time times for the week.
Alex Wagner, who hosts “Alex Wagner Tonight,” will not return to Prime Time Spot after receiving the opportunity to report a special assignment. Sources said the bets will remain in the network as correspondents.
The change will only be over a month later, after Rashida Jones said he would resign from MSNBC. Rebecca Kutler, previously the senior vice president of content strategy, has replaced Jones.
Kutler, a 20-year veteran at CNN, told MSNBC leaders he's exciting and rewarding in the future.
“We have a new company, new leadership, new offices, and a non-stop news cycle,” Kutler said.
