MSNBC’s election polling expert highlights Trump’s surge in favorability ratings over Biden: ‘A sizable gap’

MSNBC’s go-to election data expert Steve Kornacki noted the sudden “huge gap” between the favorability ratings of President Biden and former President Trump.

Ahead of Thursday’s CNN presidential debate, Kornacki took to X (formerly Twitter) to share the latest polling data from Quinnipiac University, The New York Times/Siena College and Gallup.

“Three polls released in the last 24 hours all show a big gap between Trump and Biden’s favorability/unfavorability ratings, a stark reversal from most polls this year (and in recent weeks) which have shown very little difference between them,” wrote Kornacki, national political reporter for NBC News and MSNBC.

of Quinnipiac University Poll The survey found that incumbent Democrat Biden has a 38% favorable rating and 57% unfavorable rating among Americans, compared with 44% favorable and 51% unfavorable of Trump.

The larger gap was found The Times/Siena Poll Biden has a 38% favorable rating and 59% unfavorable rating, while Trump has a 45% favorable rating and 52% unfavorable rating.

The Gallup poll showed the widest gap in support between the two candidates, with Biden receiving just 37% support. Gallup Polldisapproval rating at 61%, while President Trump’s favorability rating is at 46%, the highest since April 2020, when the Gallup poll showed his disapproval rating at 52%.

Another poll that sparked a media reaction was released by The Washington Post on Wednesday, which showed that 44% of voters in key battleground states trust Trump more on the issue of protecting democracy, while only 33% think Biden can do a better job.

“Were these people watching TV on January 6th?” The View’s Joy Behar responded to the poll on Thursday. “We’re in a very depressing time right now.”

“When people can’t decide between people who want to destroy our democracy, who want to destroy this country, Republicans will eliminate Social Security and everything,” Behar added.
