“Morning Joe” has seen a significant drop in viewership since MSNBC co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski told viewers they had met President-elect Donald Trump in person.
On Monday's 6 a.m. ET show, Scarborough and Brzezinski revealed that they visited Mar-a-Lago on Friday to meet with President Trump. The couple's co-hosts have argued for years that President Trump is a “fascist” and an overall threat to democracy. Thousands of viewers appear to have reacted by shutting down the show.
“Morning Joe” averaged 839,000 total viewers and 113,000 viewers 25-54 in the advertiser-coveted demo at 6 a.m. ET Monday. As of 7 a.m. ET, that total had fallen to 694,000, with just 70,000 in the main demonstration. The decline was the opposite of “Morning Joe” ratings since the beginning of the year, which typically see viewership increase as more Americans wake up.
MSNBC's popular morning show then took an even bigger hit the next day, averaging just 638,000 total viewers at 6 a.m. and just 81,000 in the key demo, and losing total viewers between Monday and Tuesday. We lost about 20% of our numbers. Average total viewership was down 11% across the four-hour show.

So far in 2024, “Morning Joe” has averaged just over 1 million total viewers in the 6 a.m. ET start and 1.1 million viewers in the 7 a.m. ET start.
The meeting between Mr. Scarborough, Mr. Brzezinski and Mr. Trump infuriated liberals, including his MSNBC colleagues, who lashed out at “Morning Joe” on social media.
Several prominent viewers and media personnel have vowed never to watch it again.
“This is the last time you'll see 'Morning Joe.' End of statement,” anti-Trump comedian Rosie O'Donnell said in a TikTok post.
Jennifer Rubin, a left-wing Washington Post columnist and MSNBC contributor, urged viewers to stop watching the show.

Friday's meeting was the first time the co-hosts had met with President Trump in seven years, Brzezinski said, adding that Scarborough “didn't see eye to eye on a lot of issues and we told him so.” he added.
Scarborough said he considered topics such as abortion, mass deportation and threats of retaliation against political opponents and the press. Organizers said the meeting was about an agreement to “resume communications.”
“To those who ask why, especially in these difficult times, I would go and talk to the president-elect among us, I think I would ask: Why not?” Brzezinski said. . “Five years of political warfare have deeply divided Washington and this country. We want to be as clear as possible in expressing our deep concerns about President Trump's actions and comments during this heated national debate. ”
