Greene Critiques Trump’s Endorsement of Salazar
Former Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has expressed discontent with President Donald Trump’s endorsement history, particularly after he backed Florida Republican Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar’s re-election campaign.
On Tuesday, Greene voiced her concerns, stating, “She supports illegal immigration more than most Democrats, and her support is an insult to his base,” in a post on X.
Attempts by Fox News Digital to get a reaction from Salazar’s campaign were met with no immediate response. The White House also didn’t comment.
Trump Endorses Salazar While Greene Voices Dissent
In a post on Truth Social, Trump commended Salazar, noting her efforts in representing Florida’s 27th Congressional District and expressing full support for her re-election. “She will never let you down!” he remarked.
Salazar, in office since early 2021, acknowledged Trump’s backing, thanking him for his support via a post on X, where she emphasized her commitment to her community and outlined her priorities: improving immigration systems, ensuring strong border security, and combating socialism.
She expressed, “Miami is the ultimate melting pot, a city built by people who came for freedom and opportunity. I will continue to deliver results in Congress,” aiming to ensure that all can reach their potential.
Greene, a former Trump ally who recently parted ways with him after a fallout last year, had earlier criticized his support, suggesting it contributes to the political establishment rather than changing it. In January, she stated, “Trump’s support does not drain the swamp; it solidifies the swamp and ensures that it never dries up.”
White House Defends Trump’s Record
The White House responded at the time, asserting that Trump’s ability to build coalitions has led to unprecedented achievements for the Republican Party. Spokesperson Davis Engle emphasized, “President Trump knows that politics is a game of addition.”
