Tyler Robinson’s Court Hearing for Assassination Case
Provo, Utah – The man charged with the murder of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk in September 2025 is set to appear in court today. Tyler Robinson, aged 22, faces the death penalty if found guilty of Kirk’s assassination at Utah Valley University on September 10.
According to the Utah County Attorney’s Office, Robinson’s defense will present a motion aimed at limiting public access to specific court records. The request involves keeping evidence private to prevent the spread of potentially misleading media narratives and inappropriate remarks by government officials. The defense’s filing indicates that they also seek to address privacy violations noted in their “Motion for Camera Exclusion.”
Moreover, Robinson’s legal team is urging the court to ban all cameras and microphones, expressing concerns that media coverage could lead to jury bias.
The defense team argued during a previous hearing that prejudicial media coverage could undermine Robinson’s right to a fair trial. They have suggested that they plan to present evidence on April 17 regarding “previous harmful media coverage” affecting the case. They indicated there might not be time to cover every issue mentioned but will focus on the most serious instances.
At an earlier session on February 24, Judge Tony Graf denied a motion from the Utah County Attorney’s Office to disqualify him from the case, despite the defense highlighting a conflict of interest due to one of the prosecutor’s family members being present during the shooting. Graf noted that there was insufficient evidence of bias or a conflict, dismissing the motion respectfully.
The upcoming hearing on April 17 will address the motion to exclude cameras from the courtroom, with preliminary hearings planned for May 18-20.
