A Queens man is reportedly making life miserable for residents of an Astoria building. New York PostThe man reportedly ran naked through hallways, shouted into a megaphone and smashed walls with a hammer. Residents who have complained about the situation appear helpless.
According to court documents, Alexander Rice’s behavior not only gave nightmares to children living in the building, it also prompted at least three tenants to break their leases and move out of the building, and his behavior became so disturbing that a SWAT team visited his home in January.

One anonymous resident told the Post: “[w]Everybody is scared,” he added.[m]She went on to say that her children sleep “under their beds” because they are scared of what might happen.
Despite Reis’ disturbing behavior, the building owner has not been successful in evicting him in court. According to reports, the building’s owner, Broadway Crescent Realty, has been trying to evict Reis since June 2023, eventually deciding to file an eviction lawsuit in Queens Housing Court.
A judge dismissed the lawsuit, but the building owners have reinstated it in December 2023.
Another neighbor said Rice “would go around kicking in people’s doors and throwing things out the windows into the street,” and that Rice once threatened to “burn the whole building down.”
The report said Rice would frequently walk the halls naked, masturbate in the building’s common areas and threaten people with a hammer and a wooden board. It is unclear whether Rice suffers from a mental illness.

Despite the disturbing reality for some of the building’s residents, this isn’t the first time the building has been in the news. report The attempted kidnapping occurred at an Astoria apartment in March.
