Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis on Sunday claimed that allegations of corrupt ties with the top prosecutor investigating former President Donald Trump are based on racism.
Willis' decision to cite race as a motive behind the accusations highlights a left-wing political ideology that often seeks to weaponize politically sensitive issues to legitimize power.
- Willis' defense was the first time she spoke publicly about the accusations.
- Willis and prosecutors have not previously disputed the allegations.
- Willis' office spokesperson Said of atlanta journal constitution She will respond in a court filing.
Willis' comments come after Mike Roman, a political operative and Trump's co-defendant in the Georgia election case, alleges in court four material facts about Willis' conduct while prosecuting Trump. It was issued after it was submitted to .
- Nathan Wade, Willis' lead prosecutor in the Trump case, had an “inappropriate” relationship with Willis.
- Wade's law firm used funds paid by the county to take Willis on lavish vacations with potentially fraudulent payments.
- Mr. Wade was appointed without the necessary regulatory approval and had little experience as a prosecutor.
- Wade met twice with President Joe Biden's White House advisers before indicting Trump in August and questioned whether the White House was cooperating with Biden's prosecution of his 2024 political opponent.
Mr. Willis refuted the allegations during a sermon at Big Bethel AME Church, using a profanity. Mr. Willis, referring to Mr. Wade, said he has hired three prosecutors, one of whom is black. Additionally, she said her political opponents are playing the “race card,” which makes her and Wade equal in their accusations.
Willis appeared to defend the hiring of special counsel Nathan Wade.
Without mentioning Wade by name, Willis said he hired three special prosecutors to handle the case and “paid them all the same hourly rate.”

“First they say, 'Oh, she can play the race card now.' But, no, God, aren't they?” Willis asked from behind the pulpit.
“Who's going to play the race card when there's only one question?” [Wade]? That's not it [it] Are they playing the race card? she asked. “I’ve been doing it for almost 30 years. [sic]”
Willis also went on a rant about Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), who called on Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr and Gov. Brian Kemp (R) to investigate Willis' relationship with Wade. threw up.

“I have really high hopes for Governor Kemp and Attorney General Chris Carr,” Greene exclusively told Breitbart News in a phone interview last week. “There should be a criminal investigation.”
Willis attacked Green as hateful. “I never want to be Marjorie Taylor Greene, who filled her mind with hate even though I never met her,” she said.
The district attorney also denied wrongdoing, but described himself as an “imperfect” and “flawed” human being.
Willis' comments come as House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) received more than $14.6 million in grants from President Joe Biden's Department of Justice (DOJ) from 2020 to 2023. The announcement came two days after an investigation into Willis was launched.
The deadline for the funds suggests that the Justice Department gave federal Willis funds to fund the prosecution of former President Donald Trump.
