Exclusive: Rep. Nancy Mace (D-Lausanne) is calling on former President Trump to emphasize unity in his speech at the Republican National Convention (RNC) on Thursday night.
Mace, a Trump ally and informal surrogate for his campaign, suggested Trump wants a plan that appeals not only to all factions of the Republican Party but also to other voters, particularly those who don’t traditionally vote Republican.
“I want to hear him bring the party together, and the country together, especially in the wake of Saturday’s assassination attempt,” Mace said in an interview on Fox News Digital after his speech at the Republican National Convention.

President Trump is scheduled to take to the stage at the Republican National Convention on Thursday to formally accept the GOP nomination for the 2024 presidential election.
He is expected to revise his speech following the assassination attempt at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, last weekend, when a 20-year-old gunman opened fire from a rooftop outside the rally, killing one attendee and wounding two.
This prime-time speech will be his first since the assassination attempt.
Mace argued that the speech should focus on appealing to a broader base of voters, rather than focusing on partisan divisions.

“It’s important that we all come together, but this isn’t a battle of left or right. Each side has their position,” she said. “This is about how do you attract independent voters, how do you attract women, how do you attract women. [people] “I want center-left, center and moderate people to know that there is a place for them in our party.”
“And that can unify the party and unify the country. And if he is elected, it will be a landslide victory.”

Mace herself has been known to at times buck party lines, urging the Republican Party to take clearer positions on women’s issues, such as exceptions for abortion and accountability for sexual assault.

During her speech at the Republican National Convention on Wednesday night, Mace noted that she is both a single mother and a rape survivor.
“To the women here tonight who can relate, please know that I am your friend and your sister,” Mace said, “and I will fight with all my might for you.”
