NASCAR Daytona 500 start time moved earlier to avoid potential weather hazards

The Daytona 500 start time rose for an hour due to potential weather dangers on Sunday in Florida.

The biggest racing event of the year is scheduled to air Sunday at 1:30pm on Fox.

Current forecasts show that the Daytona Beach area is more than 30% likely to rain later that day as the cold front moves through Sunday evening.

Given these predictions, according to Outkick NASCAR columnist Zach Dean, raising events is particularly beneficial for all events that involve drivers.

Dean noted that the Justy-style could have a major impact on those competing in the Daytona 500.

“Stability at Daytona is all about pack races, everyone is going to 190 mph and pushing each other within a second or two,” Dean said. “So it's important that your car falls into a turn, because if you're loose, if you wobble a little, you can take out half of the field… yeah, Daytona's Wobble is bad news.”

Furthermore, the conditions at the racecourse must be perfect to ensure the safety of all drivers, as the tires are moisture sensitive.

Drivers use special tires called slicks to maximize traction on dry roads.

Rain can cause long delays and may postpone the race.

NASCAR uses truck drying technology to ensure that roads are dry and safe enough to perform.

NASCAR's Air Titan 2.0 is a truck drying device that uses compressed air to push water out of the truck.

Essentially, it's like using squeegee to push or brush water off the road using air.

Fox Forecast Center says there is a moderate to high risk of weather risk affecting races with the expected rain shower.

Temperatures reach the 1980s' drop at humidity of nearly 70%.

If the race is facing delays, it will be the second consecutive year when the mother's nature has not cooperated with the race.

Last year's race was pushed back a day after rain washed away hopes of safely entering the race on Sunday, when it was originally scheduled.

“They certainly don't want Monday's race again. Monday's Daytona 500 is frankly a disaster for NASCAR,” Dean said. “They're not very good for people who pay a lot of money for Fox and commercials, so they're going to do everything they can to keep this race on Sunday. I think that's going to start, it's fine. . If they have to put it in the red for a few hours, it might become a bit obscure. I would rather do it and reboot to 4 or 5 on Monday night. I would like to restart with 8 or 9 instead.
