Market Updates: Nasdaq Futures Drop Amid Earnings Reports
Traders were active on the New York Stock Exchange, navigating through the morning trading session on October 14, 2026.
Futures associated with the Nasdaq-100 saw a decline on Friday, as shares of both Amazon and Intel fell following their recent quarterly earnings reports.
Specifically, Nasdaq-100 futures dipped by 2.5%, whereas S&P 500 futures decreased by 1%. Interestingly, Dow futures managed to rise by 69 points, which is about 0.1% up.
In premarket trading, Amazon’s stock plummeted nearly 7% after the company reported third-quarter earnings and revenues that did not meet Wall Street’s expectations. They also disclosed a negative cash flow of $42.4 billion and reiterated their capital spending forecast for 2026 to be $220 billion.
Meanwhile, Intel experienced a significant drop of nearly 26% due to its disappointing outlook for the current quarter, citing a downturn in the PC market. Revenue from their client computing and AI divisions fell 5% year-over-year to $8.1 billion.
Another notable stock, Sandisk, also fell over 8% in premarket trading, despite its fiscal first-quarter results beating projections. The data storage firm announced an eight-for-one forward stock split.
The market declines seem tied to investors reevaluating the AI sector.
On Thursday, Alphabet’s shares fell by 12% after the tech giant missed earnings and revenue targets for the third quarter, posting a negative cash flow of $9.07 billion. This downturn impacted the Nasdaq Composite, pulling it down by 1.4%, while the S&P 500 saw a smaller decline of 0.3%.
As the month of October comes to a close, it’s been a turbulent time for the AI sector, with investors closely watching spending patterns. Big players like Alphabet and Microsoft are sticking to their capital expenditure forecast without raising it.
At the same time, cloud computing firms—often relied upon for AI infrastructure—are under scrutiny concerning their debt levels. CoreWeave, for instance, has seen its bond yields rise significantly, with its shares dropping by 30% this month. Nebius is also on track for a 27% decline this October.
In the ETF space, the Roundhill Memory ETF, which includes AI memory stocks Micron and Seagate Technology, has fallen by 14%. The iShares A.I. Innovation and Tech Active ETF has recorded a 10% drop as well.
As traders wrap up October, the Nasdaq Composite is looking at a 2.5% decrease. In contrast, the S&P 500 is poised for a 0.9% gain, while the Dow is anticipated to rise by 2.8%.
In Asia on Friday, Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell by 2.12%, South Korea’s Kospi dropped by 3.48%, and while Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 rose slightly by 0.18%, Mainland China’s CSI 300 ended the day down 1.39%.
