Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.) said in an interview Sunday that pollster Nate Silver’s suggestion that President Biden will drop out of the presidential race is “absurd” at this stage in the election cycle.
“No, that’s not worth having a conversation about,” Moskowitz told Fox News’ Shannon Bream during an interview on “Fox News Sunday” when asked whether Biden should consider dropping out of the race.
Silver, who founded the popular polling website FiveThirtyEight, said in a recent podcast interview that presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Biden should consider dropping himself off the Democratic presidential nominee list if his poll numbers don’t improve by August.
Biden and former President Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, have been neck-and-neck in recent months, with the latest national poll from The Hill/Decision Desk showing Trump leading Biden by one point, within the margin of error of most polls.
But a recent New York Times/Siena College poll of battleground states showed Trump leading in five of six states, which Silver said could signal an uphill battle for Biden.
In an interview Sunday, Moskowitz dismissed questions about who should lead the party.
“Nate, thanks for joining us. This is ridiculous. We’re long past that conversation. President Biden is going to be the nominee. We’ll have a convention and he’s going to win in November. This is going to be a contest between the two of them,” Moskowitz said.
“The way I look at the election is: Do you want Trump back or not? That’s the crux of the issue,” Moskowitz continued, noting that that’s what voters will be evaluating at the polls in November.
“If you support a woman’s right to choose, you won’t be voting for President Trump,” Moskowitz said.
