National Association of Realtors president resigns over blackmail threat

Tracy Kasper, president of the National Association of Realtors, has resigned after receiving threats, the industry group announced Monday.

NAR announced in a press release that it had informed its leadership team that Mr. Kasper had “received threats to disclose past personal, non-financial matters unless it jeopardized his standing at NAR.”

“As chairman and as a long-time member of NAR, I have always put NAR's interests first,” Kasper said in a statement. “Given the consequences of recent threats, and the importance of this moment for myself, my family, and the organization, it is time to once again put NAR's interests first. So, with gratitude and a heavy heart, I have mixed feelings.''I sincerely hope that he will immediately tender his resignation as president.'' ”

Kasper's sudden resignation is the latest in a series of turmoil at NAR in recent months. He only took over as president in August after his predecessor resigned amid sexual harassment allegations, and former CEO Bob Goldberg paid $1.78 to industry groups and multiple brokerages. He resigned earlier than his scheduled retirement date after losing the NAR lawsuit that held him liable for damages. Damages in the billions.
