National Guardsman Shoots Migrant Who Allegedly Stabbed Two Others

National Guard troops reportedly opened fire on a migrant who stabbed two people at the Texas-Mexico border, according to documents obtained by NewsNation.

The incident occurred Sunday afternoon along the Rio Grande River in El Paso’s Lower Valley, NewsNation reported. report. Members of the Indiana National Guard sent to the area as part of Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s Operation Lone Star witnessed a person stabbing a fellow immigrant and firing a gun in response, the newspaper said. .

The stabbing reportedly took place on the U.S. side of the river.

“In the early afternoon of April 14, National Guard members assigned to Operation Lone Star fired their weapons in a border-related incident. This incident remains under investigation,” the Texas Department of State Military Affairs said Monday, per the Daily Caller News Foundation. said in a statement.

Investigators later determined that two people were stabbed during the incident, according to NewsNation. Local fire and rescue services were quickly called in to treat the two migrants for “superficial wounds,” which were not considered life-threatening.

“More information will become available as the investigation progresses,” the Texas Department of State Military Affairs continued in a statement.

The Texas Department of Public Safety did not immediately respond to DCNF’s request for comment.
