NATO leader warns Russia of ‘devastating’ reaction if it ever attacks Poland

NATO Secretary-General Mark Latte on Wednesday warned Russia that the alliance will always be there by Poland or other members, and that the response to the attack will be “devastating.”

Latte spoke in a brief comment made with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tassaw when he visited the Polish capital, Warsaw. Task said it was important to prepare for the outcome of talks between Russia and the US, aimed at ending the three-year-old war in Ukraine.

NATO members along the east side of the 32 alliance, especially Poland and the Baltic States, are very concerned that the meeting can be concluded with a settlement that is favorable for Russia. They fear that such outcomes will allow Russian President Vladimir Putin to rebuild his country's military and threaten other countries in the region in the coming years.

Latte said that neither Putin nor anyone else should assume that he could escape from such things.

“If anyone thinks that they can miscalculate and escape in an attack on Poland or other allies, they will be filled with the full power of this fierce alliance. Our reaction is devastating.

Latte's warnings came as President Donald Trump's return to power shook security assumptions from the past decades, pushing European countries to plan ambitious new investments in arms as Europe attempts to break away from its US security dependence.

Trump and Putin are expected this week.

Trump said at a recent meeting with Latte in the White House he does not believe that the peace settlements in Ukraine will lead to Russia attacking other countries.

Trump said he doesn't think that a peace reconciliation in Ukraine would lead to threatening other countries.

Latte has warned in the past that Russia could fire another attack on European soil by the end of the decade.

“Remember that Russia remains the most important and dark threat to our alliance. Don't forget that Russia is moving towards a wartime economy. It will have a major impact on their capabilities and their ability to build their armies.”
