The state agency's field coordinator directed questions to Harvest Alaska spokesperson Justin Furnas, who provided a statement from Andrew Rimmer, Harvest Alaska's regional vice president. Rimmer said the leak was discovered Saturday evening and the company “took immediate action to shut down the pipeline and immediately notified the relevant federal and state authorities.”
Mr Rimmer said a mop-up operation had begun. Point He Thomson oil field produces liquid natural gas.
The cause of the leak is under investigation. According to the Ministry of Environmental Conservation, the pipeline was immediately shut down and depressurized after the leak warning notification, so that no remaining condensate could escape from the pipeline.
