A survey of early voters found that Americans are more eager to vote by Election Day than they were four years ago, but partisan divides remain deep. NBC News reports in a new poll.
With just a few weeks until Election Day, 5 percent of registered voters have already cast their votes. According to the survey, 3% said they voted by mail and 2% said they voted in person.
An additional 47% of respondents said they planned to vote early, bringing the total to 52% of Americans who will vote by Election Day on November 5th.
44% said they planned to vote in person on Election Day.
This result is roughly in line with the results of the 2022 midterm election survey conducted during the same period.
Historically, Republicans have tended to vote in person on Election Day, while Democrats have opted to vote by mail.
Voting by mail may be more controversial than ever after the COVID-19 pandemic changed voting standards and many states enacted mail-in voting systems in response, but early research shows trends indicate that partisan divisions remain strong.
Vice President Harris leads by 17 points among voters who have already voted or plan to vote by Election Day. NBC noted that she has a lead among mail-in voters and early voters.
Trump has a 21-point lead among those who say they will vote on November 5th.
The NBC News poll was conducted Oct. 4-8 among 1,000 registered voters and had a margin of error of 3.1 percentage points.
