President Joe Biden angrily criticized the special counsel, Robert Hur, during a hastily held press conference at the White House over the latter’s remark that he had forgotten the date of his son’s death. The central claim has been refuted.
NBC News reported that the 81-year-old was falsely accused It’s weird to bring up Beau Biden’s death when it was the president himself who brought it up during the interview.
“I know that some of the language in the report has been noted with regard to my recollection of events. There’s even a statement that I don’t remember when my son died,” Biden said.
“How on earth could he say such a thing?” he cried angrily.
“Frankly, when I was asked the question, I thought, ‘What business do they have?'” Biden added.
He kept forgetting the name of the saint he claimed to have prayed to when commemorating his son’s death.
NBC reports that two sources say the president himself brought up his son’s death, despite the president’s angry accusations. Mr. Biden provided material to the ghostwriter and tried to recall other events to remember the date he brought up his son, the people said.
Biden’s disingenuous attacks on the special counsel were picked up by his defenders.
“Why on earth would you ask that question?” former Attorney General Eric Holder asked on MSNBC. “What does that have to do with storing classified documents?”
The president’s wife, First Lady Jill Biden, also accused the special counsel of “using her son’s death to score political points.”
Some say Biden confused the Mexican president’s name with the Egyptian president’s name in a speech meant to allay concerns about memory loss. Some Republicans used the bizarre news conference to call for a vote on the 25th Amendment, which would remove Biden from the Oval Office.
“My memory hasn’t gotten worse,” Biden said in his speech. “My memory is fine!”
