A young woman who aspired to be a teacher was tragically killed while she slept, reportedly by a man with a lengthy criminal history who stole her credit card. Her father is heartbroken, still awaiting a response to his last message, “Good night, I love you.”
Logan Federico, just 22 and from Waxhaw, North Carolina, was visiting a friend in Columbia, South Carolina, when a suspect broke into the rental home, used her credit card, and fatally shot her, according to police.
A student at South Piedmont Community College, Logan was working two jobs and had plans to transfer to Charleston University to pursue her teaching career, her father, Stephen Federico, shared.
Known for her bright personality, strong work ethic, and love for Taylor Swift, she touched the lives of many, her father recalled.
“She was determined and resilient,” he said, tearing up. “She was a friend to animals and people alike, always lifting others up.”
The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Alexander Dicky, reportedly had multiple prior accusations and broke into the home armed with a stolen gun, where he then shot Logan after robbing her.
According to Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook, Logan was “the real victim” in this senseless act.
Dicky was arrested the next day while attempting to use Logan’s credit card and evading capture in the woods, eventually stealing a car.
Reflecting on the night of the incident, her father noted how he had ensured her safety, reminiscing about their regular family routine of texting each other goodnight. “I always got a reply…and now, I’m still waiting for her,” he said.
One of Logan’s last messages was to her boss, who mentioned helping her get started as a bartender. “One thing she told me was ‘I love you’,” he recounted, recalling her last shift.
In tribute, her boss has named a cocktail at the bar after Logan, referred to as “Queen,” with proceeds supporting her family.
Logan leaves behind her father, mother, and siblings.
In a passionate statement during a press conference, her father addressed Dicky directly, saying, “You may have taken my daughter’s life, but you can’t destroy her spirit or the love within our family.”
Dicky faces multiple charges, including murder and robbery, and is due in court on Tuesday.
