Neil Young Releases Anti-Trump Song Amid Crime Debate
Neil Young, known for his left-leaning views, has unveiled a new song critiquing President Donald Trump’s “Make America Safe Again” campaign, despite recent reports showing a decline in crime in Washington, DC.
In the track titled “Big Crime,” Young expresses his discontent with Trump’s initiatives, particularly the deployment of the National Guard in efforts to tackle crime that has concerned locals and visitors alike.
The song takes a strong stance against Trump, labeling him a criminal and a fascist, while also mocking his famous slogan, “Make America Great Again.” Young opens with the line, “There’s a big crime in DC in the White House,” asserting his protest.
Young’s lyrics denounce fascist principles, lamenting, “no need for fascist rules” or “soldiers to walk on the streets.” He continues to critique the atmosphere created by the current administration.
Additionally, he riffs off Trump’s campaign slogan, adding a note of despair with, “Another thing isn’t great anymore.” The song was reportedly recorded during a recent concert in Chicago.
However, contrary to Young’s sentiments, Washington, DC, Mayor Muriel Bowser pointed out that law enforcement efforts under Trump’s orders have reportedly led to a significant drop in crime and increased feelings of safety among residents.
Young has been vocal in his opposition to Trump, having made headlines previously for controversial statements, including a suggestion of violence against the President. Just a few months prior, he indicated he would like to see Trump removed from power, while also criticizing fellow musician Bruce Springsteen for his views.
In addition, Young has aligned himself with progressive figures like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Bernie Sanders, participating in rallies such as the “Oligarkie Tour.” In April, he even claimed that Trump had effectively silenced him due to his dissenting opinions.
