Neon Green Flames from Manhole at Texas Tech Force University to Cancel Classes, Begin Spring Break Early

Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas reportedly forced them to cancel classes a few days before spring break began as neon green flames leapt out of their manhole covers and knocked out campus power.

The explosion on the Texas Tech campus caused a power outage Wednesday, causing school officials to issue evacuation orders for several buildings and cancel classes. Report By New York Post.

On Wednesday night's X-Post, Texas Tech announced that spring break will begin soon, not on the Monday that was originally planned.

“TechAlert! Texas Tech will close on Thursday, March 13th and Friday, March 14th. Spring break for students, originally scheduled to begin on Monday, will soon begin,” the university announced.

The first alert reportedly was sent to the campus community around 8:45pm on Wednesday, but was updated to notify residents that the explosion was the result of a manhole.

The official cause of the explosion remains unknown, but Lubbock Fire Rescue said no injuries have been reported as a result of the incident and the area is still considered an active site.

“This remains a very active scene as the crew continues to help ease this emergency,” said John Tunnel, Lubbock Fire and Rescue Commander. New York Post.

Tunnell added that Lubbock Fire Rescue has discovered that multiple manholes have been found to have smoke and fire.

Video footage and images from the Texas Tech campus have been distributed on social media, showing fire and flame-like bursts of neon green sparkling from manholes.

Students living on campus are waiting to receive information about their housing and diet status, and employees are being asked not to return to campus to get their belongings, the outlet said.

KCBD NewsChannel11 added that “everyone” has been instructed by Lubbock Fire Rescue to avoid university engineering keys with multiple reports of gas leaks.
