Netanyahu Defies Biden with Unanimous Vote Against Imposed Palestinian State

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defied US President Joe Biden on Sunday by submitting a peace plan for his government that included an externally imposed Palestinian state to a vote, which was unanimously rejected.

Prime Minister Netanyahu followed the example of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. continuation Pressure on Israel to accept a Palestinian state as a result of the war against Hamas terrorists, who started the conflict with a brutal terrorist attack on Israel on October 7th.

The Prime Minister’s Office released the following statement:

The Israeli government unanimously approved a declaratory decision regarding Israel’s objections to international decisions.

Text of the final statement:

1. Israel completely rejects international decisions regarding a permanent settlement with the Palestinians. If a settlement is reached, it can only be reached through direct negotiations between the parties without any preconditions.

2. Israel continues to oppose unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state. Such an admission in the wake of the October 7 massacre would amount to an unprecedentedly large reward for terrorism and hinder any future peace settlement.

The Biden administration was obsessed with a Palestinian state even before the conflict, and reportedly blocked Saudi-Israeli peace talks in September 2023 because the deal did not explicitly call for the establishment of a Palestinian state.

Israelis overwhelmingly oppose a Palestinian state – then to support That’s because ten years ago, they suffered rocket attacks and terrorist attacks from the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip (a Palestinian state in name only).

Prime Minister Netanyahu said on Saturday evening.

I have made this clear to the Cabinet and I will repeat it to the world tonight. Arrangements can only be reached by direct negotiation between the parties, without preconditions. Under my leadership, Israel will continue to strongly oppose unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state. And when would they want to give such unilateral approval? After the horrific massacre of October 7th. There could be no more unprecedented retribution for terrorism. Terrorism also stands in the way of future peace agreements.

The Biden administration is promoting a proposal to use hostage negotiations with Hamas to end the war and achieve a broad Israeli-Arab peace deal that would include a Palestinian state at its core.

This idea is reminiscent of the conventional wisdom in Washington before President Donald Trump, when peace between Israel and Arab states was thought to depend first on resolving the Palestinian issue. President Trump has opposed the Abraham Accords, an agreement between Israel and several Arab nations that did not include a Palestinian state or prioritize the Palestinian issue. The Biden administration has not added a single country to the Abraham Accords since taking office in 2021.
