Netanyahu: Israel can target Iran's Fordow nuclear facility independently of U.S. assistance

Netanyahu Confident in Israel’s Military Capabilities Against Iran

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that Israel is prepared to target all Iranian nuclear facilities, specifically referencing the Fordow site, which is located deep underground.

Although there are doubts surrounding Israel’s ability to effectively hit such fortified locations, Netanyahu remains steadfast in his conviction, asserting that Israel “will achieve all our objectives.”

“We [Israel] will achieve all our goals and attack all nuclear facilities,” Netanyahu remarked when asked about Fordow, in the context of US involvement.

Since initiating “Operation Lion” against the Islamic State, Israel has conducted strikes on various Iranian nuclear sites, including Natanz and other facilities near Tehran and Isfahan.

These operations have reportedly resulted in the elimination of more than a dozen high-ranking Iranian scientists and military officials.

Iranian scientists are involved in multiple fields, often working towards self-sufficiency due to external sanctions and geopolitical pressures. Their research is primarily driven by national defense and technology objectives.

The fortified Fordow facility now plays a significant role in President Donald Trump’s considerations regarding possible intervention in the escalating Israeli-Iran conflict.

Netanyahu believes that US military involvement is not necessary for offensive operations. However, military analysts point out that Israel relies on the US for long-range bombers capable of deploying specialized munitions needed to effectively target deep sites like Fordow.

Still, a debate persists over whether even advanced weapons can fully neutralize such a heavily fortified location.

Trump mentioned on Thursday that he will decide on a potential strike against Iran in the coming two weeks, although he is still hopeful for a diplomatic solution.

“Considering the considerable potential for negotiations, I will reach a decision within the next two weeks,” Trump stated during comments relayed by White House Executive Director Caroline Leavitt.

The Republican commander has urged the US to steer clear of escalating tensions, despite recommendations from allies like Steve Bannon and Tucker Carlson. Meanwhile, Senators Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) and Ted Cruz (R-Texas) advocate for showcasing US military strength as the most effective deterrent against Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

Cruz has supported the idea of executing targeted airstrikes on the fortified Fordow facility using a powerful 30,000-pound bomb, emphasizing that such strikes could be carried out without deploying US ground troops.

Netanyahu, for his part, has indicated that the decision regarding US involvement ultimately lies with Trump, expressing confidence in the latter’s ability to act in the best interests of both nations.

“He will do good for the United States and I will do good for Israel,” Netanyahu asserted.

Over the weekend, Netanyahu defended Israel’s decision to strike against Iran, countering the prior assessment from the National Intelligence Director, who claimed in March that Iran was not actively pursuing the development of nuclear weapons.

“What we received and shared with the US was very clear: they were working on a secret plan to weaponize uranium,” Netanyahu stated during an interview on Fox News’ “Special Report with Brett Byer.”

“They were progressing rapidly. They had test devices and likely early models within a few months, certainly less than a year,” he added. “I think our intelligence on Iran is quite strong.”
