Netflix Gets Ready for Launch: NASA+ Live Shows to Start Streaming This Summer

In the upcoming summer, Netflix will introduce a new type of content featuring a variety of NASA-related programming. This will include rocket launches, astronaut missions, and stunning live streams of Earth from space.

The NASA+ service, which is ad-free, will continue to be accessible through NASA’s website and its app. Additionally, it’s available on platforms like Apple TV, Fire TV, Hulu, and Roku.

While the exact date for the launch of NASA+ on Netflix hasn’t been revealed, a recent press release mentioned that “more programming details and schedules will be shared before the summer debut.”

Rebecca Sirmons, the general manager of NASA+, emphasized the agency’s goal of reaching a broad audience with narratives of space exploration, as specified in the National Aerospace Act of 1958.

Sirmons discussed how the concept for this streaming service came about, replacing the earlier NASA TV. She stated, “Linear TV is finished; streaming is the future.” She mentioned wanting to connect with the next generation of space explorers, recalling her own experiences and the desire for her daughter to engage with NASA’s exciting missions. She noted feeling disappointed when there wasn’t access to NASA TV during significant events.

As for current events, NASA+ will host two launches this week: the 92 freighter ship is set to launch at 3:32 PM EDT on July 3rd, followed by its docking scheduled for 5:27 PM on July 5th.

Aside from the live shows, other titles like The Dawn of the Universe: The Untold Story of the James Webb Telescope have recently been released, which viewers can find on NASA’s YouTube channel. There’s also a series titled It’s far from Megancrus, where Cruise takes audiences around the Kennedy Space Center, along with Space out, which invites viewers to relax and enjoy calming space visuals accompanied by music.
