Nevada couple reunited with missing cat after 5 years and a 1,200 mile trip

A Nevada couple received their own “miracle” when they were somehow reunited with their lost cat in Arkansas, more than 1,200 miles away.

Cindy and Jeff Hall were shocked five years ago when their rescue cat, Russian blue Sam, went missing from their old Arizona mansion.

“We had him for seven years and then one day he left.” Cindy told KARK News.

Sam, who was adopted at 12 weeks old, was nowhere to be found, but last month the Halls received a phone call informing them that he had been taken to an animal shelter in Arkansas, where they named him Luke.

The cat was picked up by two volunteers who were transporting dogs at a Brinkley gas station when they spotted Russian Blue.

“It’s a miracle that he walked up to the two women who had come to rescue him,” Cindy said of the chance encounter.

Volunteers delivered the cat to Jacksonville Animal Hospital, where staff scanned his microchip and were able to alert Pawsibly Cats, the pet shelter where the Halls adopted Sam.

“We contacted his family to find out how Luke got stranded at the gas station. They were very happy to learn he was alive.” The shelter said in a Facebook update..

After Sam was pampered for a bit, volunteers drove him to El Paso and then on the second leg of his trip to Tucson, where he began his long journey back home.

On the final leg, Russian Blue drove to Nevada, where he was reunited with his parents.

“When we got him, it was surreal,” Cindy Hall told KARK. “It’s a very beautiful story.”

“This story cannot underestimate the power of microchips,” she added. “I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone involved.”

The Halls say Sam is acting as he always has, even though he is now 12 years old, and family life has finally returned to normal.

It’s still unclear how Sam found his way to Arkansas, but Cindy said she’s glad he’s back.

“Having him home makes our family feel fulfilled,” Cindy Hall said.
