New iPhone feature ‘absolutely’ caters to Gen Z: expert

Imagine this: an easier way for Gen Z Apple users to take selfies.

The reality with the new iPhone 16 announced this week is that the device has a dedicated button on the side to control the camera.

The camera control feature, located on the same side as the lock button, allows you to take pictures and zoom by swiping along the control button, and you can also zoom out for wide-angle shots.

Generation Z is I especially like taking selfies with 0.5x zoom.But to do this on older versions of the iPhone, you had to flip the camera and press the volume button to take the photo.

“As to whether the new camera control features were designed with Gen Z in mind, the short answer is 'absolutely,'” said Monica Hillison, a marketing professor at Virginia Tech. Business Insider.

“Essentially, think of the camera control feature as something that third-party tools like Instagram, ChatGPT, Google, etc. can also access and use to complement their own new tech developments, like AI capabilities.”

Abdul Al-Jumaili, a marketing professor at Virginia Tech, told Business Insider that the innovative camera button makes taking photos on the phone “simpler, faster and more controllable,” and predicted that the updated device design will help the company retain its “loyal customer base.”

“With new camera controls, a larger screen and improved battery performance, the iPhone 16 Pro Max will solidify its position as the first choice for Gen Z consumers,” Al Jumaily added.

While other experts say it may not be as appealing to some Zoom generations in other parts of the world, the latest iPhone models, which are released on September 20, have generated quite a bit of buzz in recent months as people scrambled to guess what new features and colors they might have.

The iPhone 16 will be available in five colors — black, white, green, pink and blue — and apart from a major camera upgrade, it is expected to come with “Apple Intelligence” powered by ChatGPT, improved conversations with Siri, and many other new features powered by iOS 18 software.
