The New Jersey State Attorney's Office said the office is “completely devastated” after one of its veteran detectives was shot and killed during a home invasion this week.
As of Thursday, police had not yet publicly identified or arrested a suspect in the death of Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office Sergeant Monica Mosley at her Bridgeton home.
“The staff of the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office is completely devastated by the loss of Officer Monica Mosley,” the prosecutor's office said in a statement. “We are determined to ensure that Monica is remembered for who she was, how she lived, and how she impacted our lives.”
The Bridgeton Police Department said law enforcement was called to Mosley's home around 10:30 Tuesday night “on a report that multiple subjects had kicked in the front door of a residence.”

“Upon arrival, it was determined that the victim, Monica Mosley, 51, a sergeant with the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office, had been shot,” it added, adding that she later succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
“The ensuing investigation of the scene led to officers being taken to Inspira Hospital in Bridgeton, and ultimately New Jersey State Police officers being taken to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where one subject was found suffering from gunshot wounds. He was treated and taken into custody for questioning,” Bridgeton police said.
The New Jersey State Police Major Crimes Bureau, the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office, and the Bridgeton Police Department are currently conducting a joint investigation into Mosley's death.
“This loss is felt deeply by all of us in law enforcement, but our hearts go out to her family and friends, including those who worked with her every day,” Bridgeton Police Chief Michael Gaimari said in a statement. I'm really shocked.”

The Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office is located in Bridgeton, a short distance from Mosley's home.
Mosley began her career there in 2006 as a paralegal specialist and became a county detective in 2009, officials said.
“Officer Mosley was always a friend and role model to all those he served with and mentored in the law enforcement community within and beyond Cumberland County,” the prosecutor's office added. “We will miss her more than words can express, but the CCPO family will never forget her. Our thoughts and prayers are with Sergeant Mosley's family during this most difficult time.”
