New Jersey directs asylum seekers to NYC-bound trains as Gov. Murphy refuses to help shoulder city’s migrant crisis

New Jersey's Democratic Governor Phil Murphy is refusing to help New York City Mayor Eric Adams, also a Democrat, shoulder the burden of the Big Apple's immigration crisis. new york post It was reported on Wednesday.

As soon as immigrants arrive in New Jersey, local police officers direct them to city transportation and show them how to get to New York City.

“New Jersey Department of Transportation officers were waiting for them in Secaucus and showing them how to board the train to New York,” a person familiar with the situation told the Post.

“New Jersey just said, 'Fuck you,'” the source added.

Murphy's strategy of moving busloads of immigrants to New York City was a success, with none choosing to remain in New Jersey, the paper said.

Blaze News previously reported that the conflict between Murphy and Adams stemmed from an executive order signed last week by the mayor that imposed strict restrictions on buses arriving into New York City from Texas and other states. Adams' new rules specify where and when buses carrying migrants can be dropped off, and require 32 hours' notice of new arrivals. Trucking companies found to be in violation of the regulations could have their vehicles impounded and be fined up to $2,000.

To avoid the threat of being charged with a Class B misdemeanor for failing to comply with Adams restrictions, bus companies began dropping off immigrants in New Jersey.

Since Saturday, 23 buses carrying 1,017 migrants have arrived in New Jersey, according to data reviewed by The Post on Wednesday. Of these asylum seekers, 953 chose to take trains to Manhattan and continue their journey to New York City, while the remainder traveled to other destinations.

Murphy said Wednesday that New York City will continue to accept immigrants because it is “a place where federal assistance and resources are available.”

“This is a manageable situation and we expect it to remain so,” Murphy said.

Adams reportedly tried to get New Jersey to enact similar bus regulations. The mayor's executive order mirrors regulations put in place by Democratic Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, who also placed limits on where and when immigrant buses can be dropped off. Prime Minister Boris Johnson has threatened to seize the bus and impose fines of up to $3,000.

Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott has countered bus restrictions by flying migrants to Chicago and New York City.
