Police say several fights broke out at a New Jersey high school graduation ceremony, leaving one person sent to the hospital and several others injured.
According to Washington Township Police, as graduation ceremonies at Westwood High School in Bergen County concluded Thursday night, multiple fights broke out on the school’s football field.
“What should have been a fun evening for which the senior students of Westwood High School had worked so hard and looked forward to was ruined by the terrible actions of some individuals,” police said. It said in a statement.

Officers said they intervened and stopped the fight.
One person was taken to a local hospital and multiple others were treated for injuries at the scene, police said.
It’s unclear what caused the confusion.
Police said they are aware of the video and are investigating the incident.
“Unfortunately, this type of behavior occurs all too often,” police said.
Principal Frank Connelly indirectly referenced the incident in a tweet congratulating the graduating class on Friday morning.
“I’m so proud of each and every one of you,” Connelly said. Said“It has been an honor to serve as your principal and as a member of this great community, and I will never allow anything to take away that honor.”
The high school, which serves students from Westwood and Washington Township, has an enrollment of approximately 840 students. According to NJ.com.
