Stay New Jersey Property Tax Checks on the Way
Keep an eye on your mailbox.
According to the Department of the Treasury, Stay New Jersey property tax payments are set to be sent out on Monday, February 9.
In contrast to the ANCHOR payments, all eligible homeowners will receive their Stay NJ benefits as a paper check, as stated by the state.
However, it’s important to note that checks won’t arrive for everyone simultaneously.
The state has mentioned that additional benefits will be rolled out gradually, meaning it might take several weeks or even longer for all benefits to be sent out.
The Department of Treasury previously indicated that around 438,000 homeowners are approved for the first series of Stay New Jersey benefits. Spokesman Daniel Curry mentioned that the average payment will be approximately $639.
If you’re curious about your benefit status, you can visit the Ministry of Finance’s website. Simply go to nj.gov/finance/taxation/staynj and look for the big blue box that says “Check benefit status.”
This will let you know whether your benefit is still being processed or if it has been approved.
Once your benefits are approved, you’ll also see the amount of your first payment, the anticipated payment date, and whether you qualify for ANCHOR or Senior Freeze, according to spokesperson Daniel Curry.
The Stay NJ benefit aims to help reduce property taxes by half—up to $6,500—for New Jersey homeowners aged 65 and older, as well as those receiving Social Security disability benefits. To qualify, your income must be under $500,000.
If your ANCHOR and Senior Freeze payments fall short of covering half of your property tax bill, you will receive an additional payment from Stay NJ, which is limited to $6,500.
In addition, you should have received a “Determination Letter” outlining your benefits under ANCHOR, Senior Freeze, and Stay NJ. If you haven’t, you can utilize Stay NJ’s calculator to check your eligibility for benefits.
If you have questions, you can reach out to the state hotline at (888) 238-1233. For direct assistance, there’s also a regional help center available, and you can find the locations on the state’s website. While reservations are available, they aren’t required.
