A man in New Mexico is facing charges for allegedly shooting two individuals in a home after he claimed to have received a message from a cockroach instructing him that one of the men “needed to be killed,” according to reports and authorities.
Police arrived at the residence in southwest Albuquerque just before 10:30 p.m. on Friday, discovering two unidentified males dead from gunshot wounds. The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office confirmed this in a statement.
Identified as 25-year-old Alexis Hernandez, he was arrested on Saturday morning and charged with murder in relation to the double shooting.
Interestingly, three adults and two infants were also present in the house at the time, but thankfully, no one else was harmed. When officers arrived, Hernandez opened the door holding a gun and a Marine saber on his hip, as detailed in an arrest warrant affidavit.
He reportedly informed police that two men were dead inside and identified himself as a Marine Corps member. Later, in custody, Hernandez expressed belief that one of the victims was his friend who had been stalking him and had supposedly installed a camera in a light fixture.
The situation took a bizarre turn when he insisted he received a “coded message” from a cockroach stating one of the men needed to be dealt with. According to the documents, he also claimed to hear “creepy voices” emanating from the vents, leading him to believe his life was in danger.
Hernandez allegedly purchased a Glock handgun for protection, and after being taken to a back room by the two victims, he attacked them. He described shooting one man in the head and killing another in the kitchen, returning to his car to grab more ammunition before going back to shoot them again.
Notably, he claimed that two young children observed the shootings but assured authorities he did not wish to harm them.
The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office has yet to respond to requests for further comment on this incident.
