Woman Pleads Not Guilty in Rihanna Shooting Case

The woman who allegedly fired shots at Rihanna’s Los Angeles home has entered a not guilty plea to attempted murder and several other serious charges.

Ivanna Ortiz made her plea on Wednesday before Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Teresa McGonigle at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center.

Dressed in a yellow jumpsuit and shackles, Ortiz stood before the judge, her hair styled in a French braid. Alongside her plea, she requested a lower bail amount, which was ultimately denied.

During the hearing, prosecutor Alexander Bott placed blame squarely on Ortiz, claiming her actions “could have resulted in multiple murders” and were “calculated and premeditated.” He highlighted that she was found with ammunition, a disguise, and was captured on surveillance footage. Bott stated that Ortiz had planned the attack and used a “high-powered rifle” to shoot 20 rounds into a residence occupied by children.

Her preliminary hearing is set for April 8.

Ortiz, age 35, is accused of targeting Rihanna’s home with an AR-15 on March 8, when Rihanna and her family were inside but unharmed. The shooting occurred around 1:30 p.m. outside the large compound shared by Rihanna, rapper A$AP Rocky, and their three children.

According to police, Ortiz fled the scene but was apprehended about five miles away during a traffic stop in Sherman Oaks.

Officials later recovered an assault-style rifle from a vehicle linked to Ortiz.

This unsettling incident caught Rihanna by surprise, leaving her wondering why her family was targeted. It’s said she feels bewildered about the whole situation.

Ortiz’s social media posts reveal a troubling obsession with the singer. She expressed feelings of jealousy and resentment, describing Rihanna in various unsettling terms. In a particularly strange post, she accused the star of “stealing” and suggested that everyone should avoid her.

Before the incident involving Rihanna, court records indicate Ortiz had also obsessed over Billie Eilish in the weeks leading up to the shooting.

Charges against Ortiz include attempted murder with special circumstances, ten counts of assault with a semi-automatic weapon, and three counts of firing into an occupied building or vehicle.

Her initial bail was set at $10.2 million but has since been reduced to $1.875 million. Protective orders have been issued for both Rihanna and A$AP Rocky. Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman stated that if convicted, Ortiz could potentially face a life sentence.
