New York parks worker dies fighting wildfire that started in NJ

An 18-year-old New York state park employee died in a massive wildfire in Orange County over the weekend, officials said.

Dariel Vasquez died Saturday while battling a massive 2,000-acre forest fire in Sterling Forest, just off the New Jersey border. authorities announced.

State police said the boy worked as an assistant employed by the state Department of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.

Police have not released a cause of death but said they are investigating the incident.
