A man was arrested Attempted murder The incident involved a pet pit bull allegedly attacking a pizza restaurant employee who had asked the employee to take the unleashed pet outside.
Police said they were called to the Roma Pizza restaurant on 5th Avenue in Manhattan around 10pm on Monday night.
“He said Watson stopped the car because he thought the man was dead.”
Another employee told WNBC-TV the altercation began when a pizza place employee told the man, later identified as Tyshawn Watson, to take his dog outside.
Watson allegedly stood behind the counter and punched the clerk, and the fight spilled out into the street, where the dog attacked the clerk.
“The dog pounced on him and bit him. [Watson] “He stomped on him and hit him on the head. He lost consciousness. Then he did it twice more,” the colleague said.
Watson said he believed the man was dead so he stopped his car, then went inside the restaurant to wait for police.
One employee said she overheard Watson tell the dog that she wouldn’t feed it because it wasn’t following commands and “didn’t finish its job.”
Employees told WNBC they went to the back of the store and locked the doors when Watson returned. They went around to the front and locked the front door from the outside to keep the man inside until police arrived.
WNBC aired video of Watson being arrested, noting that he also had injuries on his arm from a dog bite.
The victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries but is expected to survive. Police have taken the dog into custody but have not said whether they will euthanize it.
