One celebrity chef speaks out and warns: Introducing an Amsterdam-style cannabis cafe It would be an “absolute disaster” in California.
In an interview with FOX Business, “barney & companyOn Friday, chef and restaurant owner Andrew Gruel spoke about why he thinks the implementation ultimately won't work out well for the Golden State.
“I'm an open market guy,” the celebrity chef said, “as long as it's not infringing on someone's freedom.”
But when it comes to California, the celebrity chef spoke out against it.
“Unfortunately, this doesn't work in California because we haven't established a regulatory framework that can actually police the police.”
California Governor Gavin Newsom approved it in late September. Assembly Bill 1775This would allow local governments to allow licensed cannabis retailers to prepare and sell food and non-alcoholic beverages, as well as host and sell event tickets on licensed premises.
This means pharmacies can operate as cafes, offering hot food, drinks and live music.
“We are already seeing situations like this in bars and restaurants where drunk people are spilling out everywhere,” said the chef, who opposed the move. “If someone gets stung, nothing happens; put it back on the street”
Gruel added: “California already…smells like a skunk world's fair and everyone's smoking weed everywhere, but now we're bringing it into dining settings, with kids around.” There may be,” he added.
“I just Newsom don't think so. You can deal with this. “I don't think California can handle this,” he said.
“[If] If this were Florida or any other state, I'd say, “Yeah, give it a try.'' So some guy was eating an extra donut and getting high in a cafe…but California, I'm telling you, it was going to be an absolute disaster. ”
