San Francisco is launching a new program backed by Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom, which issues speeding tickets based on income.

For the first 60 days of the pilot program, the camera is only used to send warnings to the driver, and then fined. Violations begin when an individual drives more than 11 miles at a speed limit.
Speed cameras are located in areas with “highly injured” and 12% of roads in San Francisco account for 68% of severe traffic-related injuries or deaths.

San Francisco is not the only city that plans to deploy a pilot program.
