Newsom backs Harris: No one better to prosecute case against Trump

California Governor Gavin Newsom (Democrat), who is considered the leading contender for the Democratic presidential nomination, has endorsed Vice President Harris’s presidential bid.

“Tough. Fearless. Tenacious,” Newsom wrote on social platform X.

“At a time when our democracy and future are at stake, there is no one better suited to denounce Donald Trump’s dark vision and steer our country in a healthier direction than Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris,” Newsom continued.

Harris, a former U.S. senator representing California, is seen as the party’s front-runner to succeed Biden after Biden made the historic announcement on Sunday that he will not seek the party’s nomination at next month’s convention.

Some Democrats are in favor of an open convention with multiple candidates vying for the party’s delegate support, but many others have directly endorsed Harris, the likely successor as vice presidential nominee.

Biden has endorsed Harris for her candidacy, but former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) have not endorsed her.

Newsom has been Biden’s biggest supporter and surrogate during the campaign and has repeatedly said he would not run for president if Biden dropped out of the race. Newsom first said in 2022 that he would not run for president in 2024.
