Gavin Newsom’s Election Night Antics
California Governor Gavin Newsom took to social media on Democratic election night to share a quirky, edited video that showcased a wrestling slam aimed at President Trump, along with some AI-generated images portraying Trump as a disgruntled infant.
I guess you could say Newsom is trying to adopt Trump’s more unfiltered social media vibe. The clip featured him and former President Barack Obama playfully taking on the current president in a WWE-like setting.
In the video, Newsom exclaimed, “This is what we call a takedown,” while sharing it on X’s official account.
The entertaining clip also depicted House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, dubbed “The Dominator,” slamming Speaker Mike Johnson, although the House won’t reconvene until next year. It was a strange scene, really—Senator Alex Padilla was seen tossing his deputy chief of staff, while Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez humorously dismantled border czar Tom Homan.
Interestingly, Trump, a member of the WWE Hall of Fame, has also been known to post similar wrestling-themed videos in the past. Recently, he released a deepfake of himself in a fighter jet during a protest and a clip of Jeffries with a sombrero as the government faced a shutdown.
Newsom’s playful censorship aligns with California voters’ recent approval of Proposal 50, which redraws congressional maps to add five Democratic-leaning districts, countering Republican redistricting attempts in other states.
On Tuesday night, Newsom celebrated by declaring, “What a night for the Democratic Party,” noting that the party is not just surviving but thriving.
Democrats also made gains in gubernatorial races in New Jersey and Virginia, grew their majority in the Virginia House of Delegates, and kept control of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
Amidst these victories, Newsom’s montage included an AI-generated image of Trump crying while stating, “Newsom was right about everything.” He even shared bizarre illustrations of himself with a baby Trump, feeding him and pushing him in a stroller.
While discussing his social media tactics last week on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Newsom mentioned, “The whole thing was about not allowing this to become the norm. It was becoming the norm. I reflected that madness in the mirror.”
